AQUART is a cultural, aquatic and subaquatic event, whose mission is to promote art, aquatic and subaquatic sports and the environment. The expostions are presented in interior pools and in many different exterior environments like in the Flintkote quarry in Thetford Mines, QC, the St-Lawrence river in Brockville, ON and other places where the water is limpid.
Since 2006, an annual accumulation of permanent art pieces in the Flintkote quarry makes it the first permanent underwater museum in the world. Promised a very bright future, AQUART is developing rapidly since already 7 years. Since the last edition in 2010, 5 painted half-spheres have joined the other 80 pieces in the underwater museum.
The presence on site of several renowned artists undoubtedly demonstrates the global potential of this unusual event, UNIQUE IN THE WORLD! Let's emphasize on the participation of David Martel, Pascal Lecocq, Jean-Louis Courteau, Steve St. Pierre, Dominique Danvoye, Cynthia Coulombe Bégin, Philippe Descoteaux, Caroline Giroux and Audrey Bégin, to name a few, for their special contributions.
A huge thank you goes out to the volunteers for their generous implication.
AQUART has at heart to support environmental and humanitarian organizations. A percentage of revenue has been paid to the benefit of the GEERG (Studying group on the elasmobranches and the Greenland shark) and the Quebec Cancer Foundation.
